With this move has come many new changes from a new phone number (503) 616-4739 to better quality internet business connections for our crawlers to do a better job.

Advertising Merry Go Round

As you can see we are experimenting with ads once again on the website. We are in a bit of limbo waiting on some others to get the ads just right. So you will see lots of changes in the next few days- Both good and bad. We will stick with the good later on.

Monday is a big day for 0pn.com we will be releasing our first press release to let the world know that 0pn.com exists. So all of our faithful follows should see a huge bump in searches and clickthroughs to websites. Good news all around.

After this stuff is done the next step is going to be a major directory submissions and article writing to bring more traffic 0pn.com Hopefully after that our search engine database will grow to such a size that all of our results will be relevant and topical and will create a user experince that gets people talking.

Don't forget to submit your individual page urls to the new Crawler Queue these will be added to the list of domains/pages we are currently running in the 0pn skelton crawler and will be added to the database on the next upload.

We have redone, from the ground up, the most popular search words section at 0pn.com.

Now you can view over 15500 phrases that have recently been search for. While our searches way exceed that number. These terms have all been searched for multiple times. This makes our directory structure a bit easier to read(by search engines).

We are also looking into creating a complete html sitemap of the entire "human edited" entrys so that webmaster entries will be found and indexed on third party search engines.

How Many Mirrors Did We Break?

Well 0pn is having issues once again.

I sit here wondering how many mirrors we broke, black cats crossed, ladders walked under, salt spilled for more things we must have done to deserve this go here: http://www.oldsuperstitions.com/bad_luck.html

Now our backup datbase servers are down for the count and have been for a few hours now. We have no estimated time of repair and are again looking for a new host. This will be our 3rd in less than 1 month. We will not accept mediocrity from our servers our guests deserve 0pn to be up. And We can't do that if our servers are down.

Now that I have your attention a small note on what we HAD PLANNED for this weekend. We may delay this until Monday or Tuesday depending on how long it takes us to get our backup server back online.
1. Human Entered Websites-we are swinging keyphrase importance away from the individual words to the PHRASE. 97% of all searches contain one or more search terms and focusing on the phrases will allow quicker more targeted searches.

2. New submit buttons-We are switching to java search button to allow for the GET search URL to be read more easily by third party web applications.

3. Keyphrase propgate - We are working on coding to allow manually entered phrases to point to urls/titles and descriptions that contain the search phrase entered. This will allow webmasters to better target pages within the domain that better match the search our guests have searched for.

Google Compliance

Well we worked our butts off tonight.

After a e-mail to the Google Adsense team about compliance. YES I e-mailed them and told them what COULD be wrong(talk about stupid on my part). We were told something completely different to a previous E-mail so now we have an EXTREME filter in place.

Every time someone searches for something Google considers bad then ads would not be shown.
This slows down the search page considerably and takes away many revenue potential searches like "adult diapers" because we have to block the word adult because that is likely to produce some adult content.

So now if you see your title/descriptions missing some key words this would be the case. It kills me to sensor anything at all. I'm so against censorship of any kind. But I have to comply with the regulations THAT PAY THE MONEY.

No Wonder Why They Call Them Crawlers

The 0pn Skeleton Crawler has been working overtime. We have programmed six modes of data retrieval into the crawler and we just finished what we have coined 'skim mode.'
This mode focuses on keyword density and keyword meta tags. This works simply if you website has a word or phrase in the meta tags we check the rest of you site and see if that word actually reaches a certain keyword density - If so - The crawler then associates your website with that keyword and ads it to the database.

Next mode we are beginning the run has a code name of 'tantalizing titles' As you may already know many search engines love the title because they expect it to show the contents of the page in a nutshell. We work on faith with this one because the keyword density of the page can meet a lower percentage and still be included.

While we have not updated the version number(1.0) we did make some minor tweaks. Some mirror pages were sneaking through under the same word and have included a title/description comparison. This is far from foolproof so we are going to continue working on the new ways around this crafty little websites.

Now onto our first impressions of the first database upload.
Seeing that the current databases is only a drop in the bucket of what we plan for the final database. We are thrilled with initial results. We now have results given on 82% of the searches. Some of those results are still a bit lacking but those should be moved down to the bottom of the results page as the better databases replace the first.

The new spider is working great, almost to the point of TOO great. The databases that have been created are so large that we now have to decide how to deliver them. Our current host is very limited on the space front but has been by far the best quality, speed and uptime host we have found. So the idea of changing to another location is just out of the question. We looked into upgrading but the expense is currently too great on that host.
So we are in limbo tryhing to figure out what to do with these datbases--stay tuned for the answers.

USER AGENT: Some of you may have come here because you have seen in your host logs 0pn Skeleton Crawler. This was just a recent update that wer should have done many moons ago on our other various crawlers.
The crawler is currently taking note of links on the page it scans it is not following these links our intial pass is all about front page of the domain names.

Fine Line Between Pleasure And Pain

We all know that a website with an over abundance of advertising is often a turn off. The reason we see this, on many sites, is because it pays. 0pn.com is trying to do the delicate dance, as well.

We have to ask ourselves this everytime we try something new, with our advertising.
How much is too much?
Does this detract from our results?
Would our guests be turned off or offended by an ad?
Is this going to make us any money?
How much money is it going to make?
Does it have to be a NET profit or will any income help better 0pn?

As you can see it is quite a mess to deal with advertising. 0pn has already decided it will never show any annoying, talking, moving, and popup ads on our website. Our image is way too important than a little extra income.

So basically what I'm saying, by this blog post, is expect some changes over a period of time. With different ad placements. We need your help in letting us know when that FINE LINE has been crossed.

Hit the Wall

Well... 0pn was going gang busters for a short time and now it seems to have hit some sort of invisible wall. Overnight we lost about 10% of our daily visitors and it still seems to be dropping. So here we go again instead of perfecting our technology we are going to spend the next couple weeks wasting time and trying to get traffic back to our sites.

This is now how the internet should be. I have personally spent more time and money trying to SEO, get traffic, banners, PPC and just natural links than I probably have working on the entire site. This hurts our Guests. They can not have a better Search Engine because we spend so much time and money telling people about the search engine.

Such a disappointment.

Skeleton's in the Closet

We have been having fun with our new crawler. 0pn's working name was the Skeleton Crawler and we have decided to stick with that name. Crawling has been commencing for about 1 week now and we will do a lump Upload to the servers, if we don't run into any pesky Bugs and gremlins, in about two weeks time.

You ask why it was called the Skeleton Crawler? We had been getting bogged down in getting as many results under as many search words and phrases as possible. The Skeleton Crawler is much different it actually looks for the best results under a certain word/phrase if the SCORE is greater than those already in the database then chances are it would be overwritten. This allows for our crawlers to work much faster and create BETTER results for MORE of the world wide web instead of getting bogged down on the POPULAR words.

We will be releasing more information on this crawler as we come out of the beta testing period. While we love to protect our trade secrets we also believe it is very important to be open on how our technologies work so that everyone can be on an even playing field.

Book Of Daniel

I'm going to take today, instead of talking about 0pn, to share my dissapointment in the NBC television network. It has come to my attention that they have decided to cancel a television show "Book Of Daniel" that I found very groundbreaking and understanding. With most TV shows on the air today it did sometimes go a Bit over the top but overall it was one of the finest TV shows added to schedules for quite some time.

If you visit the NBC's Book Of Daniel Message Boards you will find one of the reason this show was canceled. A Small "christain" based groups had problems with the content(gay) of the show and had a majority of the advertisers pull their advertsing from the show. Second it was shown on Friday night against shows like Numbers, Ghost Whisper, Stargate and Battlestar To tell you the truth, if I didn't have 2 vcr's I would have never watched the show either.

While from earlier posts on this Blog you can tell I'm an avid television fan. I remember many shows that needed to BUILD an audience and many Networks do not give shows chances for this. NBC you still can bring this show back. The bad publicity you have received on your choices has actually made this show more popular after its cancelation than it ever was while it was on the air.

Personal Touches

Ok have heard from a few folks I need to break away from the BUSINESS blog and talk about the things I like and to bring in my personal touches cause people want to know.

So today I'm stepping away from the business aspect of the blog to talk about Reality TV. Yes I'm infatuated by ALL reality TV shows but tonight I'm going to focus on the premiere of American Idol. As usual tonight's episode was the beginning of the "train wreck" episodes. I describe them this way because it is really a horrifying experience to watch some of these young people butcher tune after tune but the weird thing is you can not turn away for even a moment.

Overall Simon was a bigger Jerk than usual. But Paula seemed to be a little more on the EVIL side or maybe she just has become immune to stroking these peoples feelings. In my opinion I like the "new" Paula.

Who to Watch? For some reason the overly exuberant/Crazy Dave. Underneath it all he had somewhat of a voice--he has a huge fan base-- and once he gets with the voice coach they may be able to develop something. Or not we will just have to watch and see.

2 Years Old Today

2 years ago today 0pn went live on the internet. Since we consider most of that time to be our testing period our extreme growing process really only started when after we hit 1 year old. 0pn.com turned its first profit this year and plan on most of it being reinvested into making the next years growth even better.

Thank you all for being there and helping out to make 0pn better everyday. We hope within the next 1 or 2 years you can say "I knew 0pn When and even helped make it what it is today" because everyone of you out there is just as much a producer, beta tester and fixer of this website.

Busy days and nights got me a tad bit stressed out. So since the stress was building I decided to buy a couple of the newer First Person Shooters out there.
And now I'm taking the time to post about how much I like F.E.A.R. This games Single player edition is so well done with sounds and music that I must say that everyone should try out this game. AVP fans will see in a heartbeat that FEAR is a great suspense/horror game rush out and buy it now.

0pn's NARK program is still down. As 0pn has become more popular we are getting more and more attacks against our scripts. With each attack we have to struggle to keep our servers safe. We intend to shut down any portions of the website that may threaten the search engine itself.

We have taken some hard earned funds that were going to be for upgrading the server and have moved that into our security budget. We intend on hiring a web Security specialist to close up any and all holes. Hang in there folks you can Expect the NARK program to be up and running(again) early next month.

Well... we have decided to do some testing of the Yahoo Publishers Network beta. So you will notice those ads instead of the google ads for a while.
YPN has some very unique features OVER Goolge that it will take me a little time to learn.

I have upgraded some hardware and after cleaning up my system and doing some long overdue backups I have started the slow process of crawling the net and creating our crawled database.

The crawled database will only be uploaded after the first pass has completed we have gutted some major parts of the crawl to fit them in the space we have. We have to continue to get the word out to get the money for the dedicated server that would solve all these issues.

Well I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving yesterday. I struck down by a migraine and didn't even make it here to wish all of the 0pn users a happy day. Maybe I will do it right next year -- and look at all the new holidays coming up.

Looks like my automated turkeys worked on the homepage. Thought I had done it on the USERS machine but must have done it by server time codes because some of my west coast friends said it appeared a little early. I will look into that for the next holiday.

With the headache gone and my "Rent Day" (great movie BTW) over. Now time to get back to work. In fact I'm on my way down to Staples(black Friday shopping what am I thinking, Oh yeah the huge deal) to buy a hardware upgrade that should help me do larger crawls of the internet and get better crawled results.

Well I've decided to take the day before Thanksgiving off. That is right my first day off in 7 months. You might ask "why now, What possesed you?" That is simple. Today "Rent" the movie opens in theatres. Being a fan of this play for many years, I figured I would spend the whole day making it a Rent day. I know some of you are laughing and saying a "Rent day?? it is a two hour movie how could you possibly spend the whole day on one movie?" Sister Site Sunday

We are back to working on and finally getting up and running 0pn's sister site Rent The Film we are thrilled with how it turned out and now we just need more user reviews to get the content and quality of the site increased.

As for 0pn we are struggling with getting the big sites to read the data included on the pages. We work everyday to be KNOWN out there and as long as we are NOT 0pn's technologies may never be seen as a serious force.

We are running out of disk space. Our database has grown so fast that we are running out of disk space. This is a great sign. We will have to upgrade with our servers soon but this will be something we are willing to pay for.

Time To See Some Grades

I've been very busy working on 0pn trying to make it one of the best search engines out there. Once in a while I take what we have created so far and grade it. Actually writing down "grades" allows us to step back and see what needs work.

Speed of Growth A- It is amazing how quickly our Webmaster databases are growing. These search results are often better than the Crawled reults because they are human edited.

Advertising D- We are struggling on this. The idea of spending money to tell people about us seems like a secondary NEED. We prefer to spend money to BETTER 0pn and create a better experience.

Income C+ This was an F not more than a few months ago. While we are still spending more money than we make our income is steadily rising. Does this mean I get rich- I wish - We are still spending more than 0pn makes. So I guess you could say we are losing money.

Crawler B- This is one of the most important parts of 0pn.com We have tweaked this crawler to give results to our database that fit in with our technology. We have been testing a new variation recently and hopefully we can implement the results soon(hope that brings us to an A-).

Competing with the big guys F This is one of the ones we hate the most. It seems like a futile Attempt to create a Search Engine when you KNOW that you probably have no chance whatsoever to be anything more than that "SMALL fish in a ENOURMOUS pond" But we still plug away because we need to show there is an alternative to the OLD ways of doing things.

Mental State D+ Yes long nights and long days are stressing me out a bit. Wish I could afford a Vacation.

Questions Answered: I noticed that the look of your website is almost all black and white. Am I having trouble viewing the color? Or is this on purpose?

Don't worry nothing is wrong with your system 0pn.com chose to make the Color Scheme this way. We figured 0pn is a throwback to the "olden days" - When keywords were king and before "linkbacks" were even a twinkling in a programmers eye.
The simple look of the greyscale graphics makes for quicker loading. It also makes the links in the search engine stand out(they display in blue).

We have tested links in Black, and we really enjoyed the look, but most surfers are looking for the blue links to click on. As 0pn increases in popularity we may go back to black links.

First off... I actually got away from 0pn for the night and went out to a halloween party. I had a pretty good time and really enjoyed myself. Now I have to get back to the grindstone and get some work done.

It is the day of 0pn's sister sites. The new Rent The Film is up and running and we should have the review system done by the end of Sunday or Monday night.

Had a fun night working to, redirect rewriting files, to redirect static urls, to point to the dynamic urls. Now if that above line didn't make sense to you -- Now you know how I felt when trying to figure out htaccess files and rewriterule good thing I'm a geek and know my computers otherwise this may have taken me weeks instead of hours.

Since 0pn is an ever changing site it is very difficult to figure out how to get the entire website indexed by other Search engines. The rewrite of the urls was step one. Below is a list of five top keywords and phrases in the new url format.

Oh and I had time to submit some more directories with 0pn.com. Seems the back log is pretty tremendous for these engines/directories may take months to get around to even looking at it. HMM takes 0pn less than a second to list a site? Wonder why we can do it and others can't?

The Dynamic 0pn

Ok I'm in a bit of a pickle 0pn.com is a search engine that has numerous pages that can produce results but all of those results are produced on the 0pn Search Results page these are usually produced using a dynamic page(created on the spur of the moment). The problem I seem to be having is getting Google to index and pagerank this page.

Our sister site is producing great revenue. I know it is not much and in fact was produced as a temporary site until we could get Rentthefilm.com up and running.
But we were so surprised at how well Nvalue is doing that we will continue to make it better and use any income on making 0pn.com a better search engine.

Question By One of our Guests: Why do you even bother with sites like Google, Yahoo and MSN out there?

Very good question. Often times we still ask that same question and we feel a tad bit overwhelmed. Those "BIG" websites are not nessecarily the best technologies of the year 2005 while Google has added great things from Gmail to Adsense the actual Google Search engine has changed very little.

Today there are hundreds(if not thousands) of functioning search engines and directories on the net. Very few of these search engines and directories are different. In my travels I've found maybe 10 that stand out because they try and take things into a new technological direction. These engines are what works in the SEA of Engines that just do the same thing as the rest.

0pn has taken that next step asking webmasters to inform us of the best parts of a websites. Many webmasters try to focus on one point and using highly targeted keywords and phrases can often do this for us. That is why we Bother. That is why the handful of other SE's and Directories also try to CHANGE how things are done. Now if we could get the big guys like google/yahoo and MSN to also make some changes maybe there would be no point for engines like 0pn.com.

Too Tired
So the plan was to submit to 250 Search Engines and I only did about 20. I was very tired last night. After some minor corrections from the recent site Face lift(more of a botox treatment) I was just way too tired to get anything more done.

New Buttons and Hand Submit

There has been a slight face lift at 0pn we have 3 New buttons and one button removed. While it is a small change keeping with our Grayscale Theme it looks pretty nice if I do say so myself.

My clicking finger is aching from all the hand submissions to search engines and directories last night. I'm sorry to say I've been lacking on getting the word out about 0pn.com. This should have been done long before now, but I kept putting it off thinking I would buy in on the Paid Inclusion and get listed prominently on most of the directories.
Tonight I will do more of the same plan is to hand submit, using auto form filling software, to another 250 engines and directories.

I had an unpleasant surprise when I checked out the site last night. Seems because of my lack of updates to the phpbb Message Boards. The 0pn board was hacked and defaced last night. Even though we have worked at making security our number one priority just by 0pn's popularity seems like we are a healthy target. We will continue to do our best to secure the DATA that truely matters the 0pn database and our user accounts.

I wanted to start out today with a Heartfelt thank you to all the supporters of 0pn it is amazing how quickly we are growing just from your kind words. I know it is often hard to see past a site just starting out with little content and still believing in our techonlogy that you keep coming back and telling your friends. It is because of our loyal Guests that we can say that 0pn in the Search Engine to watch out for.

Things are now moving faster than I ever imagined at 0pn.com I spent all night last night working on URL submission to adsense tweaking so with little sleep(2 hours) in the last 48 hours I'm typing this while not sound of mind. So lets hope I got my point across rather than sounding a bit punch drunk.

So I edited a couple features of the Search Engine algorithm that makes the human entered search phrases weighted much higher than before. This will keep the crawled results from overtaking listing just because they have better meta tags.

Now folks say blogs should be extremely witty and humorous to keep people reading. So in future posts you may see some of my humor creep in. I find this a bit hard to do. I take 0pn Extremely serious and feel that it is very important to let people know the step by step actions I'm taking to create a better search engine for all users. So see you next time with some hilarious tidbits ;-).

I thought Syndication was for TV shows?

The last 24 hours I have been creating a RSS feed for 0pn.com. During this undertaking we decided to remove a considerable amount of urls from our google sitemap to only Human entered data. A smaller sitemap should get the more important URLS crawled faster.

I've also created a please wait box--that informs our guest the search is being done while the Extensive Dynamic searches are taking place. The one downfall of doing such thorough searches is the time it takes.

List of things to do:
1. Auto updated TOP 10 Searches. I'm currently updating this by hand and it is a very slow process. So I figured I should make that automatic. While this is not priority number one it should be coming soon.
2. RSS now needs to get out and about. We will be spending time submitting the feed around the net so syndication of the feed will come along.
3. Crawlin' right along--we have stopped the crawler from crawling currently due to space limits. But with recent income we should start the crawlers up again.
4. We need the Human Webmasters to enter their sites. Remember take the time to fill out the information correctly and your site will be listed INSTANTLY under the Search phrases and Terms you choose.

First Blog Entry

Well... This is my first entry into a long overdue Business Blog. Getting the word out about 0pn.com seems to require a syndicated blog, rather than, the message board I've been using to tell everyone what is new.

So I throw my hat in the ring. Here is where I will tell my users the new things happening at 0pn.com to create a better search engine. It is our goal to break away from the search engine monopoly and bring Webmaster options in getting your website seen as well as working on results that will be better for the users and not cluttered with unimportant information.

Recent Additions

Google Adsense: Has been added to our main pages to bring in revenue. We are doing studies using other ppc search engines to see what adsense pages will bring 0pn a little more revenue then we will focus on adverting those pages. This extra income will then go into everything from Upgrading Servers to getting more traffic.

Blog: Well, obviously, this is a new thing.
